James Dillehay (studio #17)

Everywhere I look, colors pop out as if they have a form of their own that serves to drape the objects reflecting their light. Perhaps like many artists, images appear in my mind’s eye and I am compelled to bring them into form as fabric.

My path as an artisan began when a Sufi master, Adnan Sarhan told me to learn weaving and sell my work. Though I initially resisted, I found the learning of the craft filled a long held desire to make things with my own hands.

Surprisingly too, my world view changed. I began seeing connections among things in life unnoticed before. “Work” changed from being effortful drudgery to playful entertainment. Weaving brings me into the moment and provides a media through which to communicate beauty.

I hope you will enjoy owning one of my pieces from the Treasure Box Gallery here in Madrid, NM.
